Blast from the past: Using Survival trailers for bugging out

Hello my friend and welcome back!   Of all of the post I have ever written, this one is by far the most popular, and thought I might share it with you again. I hope you enjoy it; so grab a cup of coffee and have a seat while we visit.

OK, I recently ran across something that I really like and it is called a “Survival Trailer”. They are also sometimes called bug out trailers, as well.  As strange as it may seem, I hadn’t really considered this until now and it is the subject of today’s Post  so I hope you enjoy it.

Survival trailers, while not being a new concept, are quickly growing in popularity. What exactly is a Survival Trailer? We are not talking about Travel Trailers here but something completely different.  It is a trailer with storage and survival equipment in it that can be quickly hooked to the back of a car or truck and be ready to go in a couple of minutes.  They are found in many sizes and configurations, but are usually designed to be used off-road as well as on the highway.  At the end of this post, I am going to have a few pictures of some that I have found on Pinterest, which I find interesting.

So what is in a Survival trailer? The quick answer to that is anything you want!  Besides the obvious like water, fuel and supplies, some even have an attached tent and a kitchen sink as well.  Talk about ready to go!  I personally like the ones that are used primarily for storage and have a desk of sorts that can be used for whatever is needed, from cooking to radio communications and First aid.  Plenty of room for spare water and fuel is a must for me too.  Whether you drive a small or large vehicle, a survival trailer can give you a lot more room for bug out bags and equipment as well as food when the time comes.  I know that I am going to be doing a lot more research on these and will be building one for myself in the near future.

As a Ham radio operator that does a lot of work with RACES, and other Emergency groups where we go to remote locations to set up and transmit during exercises, this would an ideal solution for carrying everything you need with you in a single package. I may even build one for just that purpose.   Maybe add a canopy to it so all I need to do is pull up and set everything in place and I am good to go.

Survival trailers need not be expensive and could probably be made out of just about any type existing trailer, just add a few modifications to make it work for what you want and you are good to go. The more I think about it the more I like the idea of buying a trailer base from Harbor Freight and building one with all of the features I would like to have in it.  I actually think it could be fun as well.  Well that is it for today, please check out the pics below and let me know if you have any questions.  Our Pinterest page has new board that is dedicated Survival Trailers so check it out as soon as you can.  Until next time, stay safe, stay strong and stay prepared.  God Bless America!

  1. Of all the bugout possibilities,I think a trailer makes the most sense. Small and compact makes parking it in a garage possible and easier to maneuver through traffic. I like it!
