Caring for your family in a post SHTF world and what you should be aware of!

Hello, my friend and welcome back!  When SHTF hits, your primary responsibility will be to provide for your family and protect them.  There are a few things that you might not have given much thought to and you really should, so grab a cup of coffee and have a seat while we visit.

Facing a post SHTF world when you are single would be frightening enough, but facing it with a family would be terrifying.  There are just so many things that can go wrong and you have to be on guard all the time.  The price of failure would be something that would stay with you the rest of your life.

The best time to start preparing for this scenario is now, because you need to train every member of your family to watch for certain things.  Also, use things like secret code words for times when someone tells a family member, you sent them to get them.  All of these things will help protect them now, as well as in the future.

When it all falls apart and there is no longer any law and order, the value of this training will become critical to survival.  You see, when there is no longer any law, many things will become very valuable that may not have been before.

Children, both boys and girls will become very valuable.  There are so many sick and dangerous  people out there who are only kept in check by fear of the law. They will suddenly be free to indulge in their most twisted desires and they won’t care who it hurts.  There will be nothing their depraved minds can’t come up with.

Young women and children will literally become worth their weight in gold and there will be a whole lot of people who are hungry and looking for anything they can trade for food.  Starving people will do anything to eat.  Even after the walking dead (Starving people looking for food) have all died out, there will still be plenty of sick people around to make guarding your children and spouse the highest priority.

Besides Pedophiles, Rapist and Murderers, there is something else that many people don’t talk about.  When people get hungry enough, they will resort to cannibalism and that is just a sad fact.  The younger the person they more tender the flesh and they will do anything they can to get their hands on your children.

There is also the possibility of having a family member taken for ransom to get food from your group.  As I was saying, the post SHTF world will truly be filled with dangers for you and your family.  The thing now is to learn and reinforce training now, so when the time comes you will be ahead of the gang.

As I mentioned before, having a code word to let each other know when something is wrong and help them identify who to trust, especially when they are scared, is very important.  You need to keep each member of your family in sight at all times if possible.  Others will be watching for the opportunity when you look away for a minute, so everyone should always be keeping each other in eyesight.

Each member of your team should carry a whistle around their neck at all times.  They should be taught to know that when a whistle sounds, they should all run as fast as they can to a predetermined spot and rally with other members of the family.  They should also be taught to sound the whistle as loud as they can at the first sign of trouble, especially if it is them in trouble.

Once the family has been rallied, check to see if anyone is missing and if so, look for them only after the rest of the family is safe.  You don’t want your whole family running out to save one person only to find it’s a trap and you all become caught in it.

The predetermined rally spot should be somewhere like inside your home or a predetermined place agreed to by your group.  The idea is to get everyone safe as quickly as you can before you go after anyone who might be missing. If you’re the parent, your first instinct will be to run right out after the missing child, but you must fight the urge.  Don’t… You will be panicked and not thinking clearly and could place the others in danger by doing it.

Remember this:  Stop and breath and push the panic out of your mind as much as possible.  This is not the time to be running around half-cocked.  Analyze the situation; how many enemies are you up against and where are they?  Are they armed and if so with what?  The couple of minutes it takes to analyze the situation could very well make the difference in the outcome.

Hopefully, you have already made plans for dealing with such a situation and you can jump right into action and resolve the matter.  Never wait till the last minute to try to make a plan when your head is filled with panic.  Plan for these types of situation and train often for them.  If one of your members is captured, teach them to blow the whistle ever chance they get while captured.  Training everyone now can save you a world of grief when the time comes and one of your family members is taken.
