Why I always carry a gun with me!

Hello everyone! In today’s post I am going to discuss why I always carry a gun with me wherever I go and why you should consider doing it as well.

In case you don’t know, I spent several years in the Military, as well as time as a Deputy Sheriff in South Louisiana. During my time in both of these fields, I saw time and time again how innocent people were injured and even killed because they believed that everyone is basically good and that the cops would be there in time to save them if they needed it. I am here to tell you that this just isn’t so and that there are a lot more bad people around you than you realize.

The old belief that everyone is basically a good person may have been true at some time in history, but it sure as heck is not true today regardless of where you live. Our world of has desensitized us to death and merciless killings. Children for the last few decades have grown up with games and TV shows that both glamorize this type of behavior and in some ways actually encourages it. You add to that, parents that claim that they are just too busy to correct their children or that believe that it is wrong to spank a misbehaving child and you have a generation of young people who have absolutely no regard for others or for authority. Without a moral compass to keep them on track, they wander around looking for opportunities to take what they feel is owed to them at any cost. This is trouble that is looking for a place to happen!

Now please don’t misunderstand me, because I have raised two fine young men that have never been in trouble with the law and I hope never will. I taught them to respect authority and other people and as a result they are both the kind of men I hoped they would be. Now, I am not saying that it is easy or that I was some kind of super parent. I just made time to try to keep an eye on them and make sure they were not doing the kinds of things that would contribute to them becoming a bad person. OK, enough about that and back to the subject at hand. You also have people out there that simply don’t care about right or wrong as long as they get what they want and the scary thing is that there are a lot more of them out there than you think.

Back when I first became a Deputy Sheriff I was still a little naïve and like a lot of people thought that very bad people were the exception and not the rule. Boy was I ever wrong! I really had to take a step back and take a whole new look at the world! For the first time in my life I was seeing the world as it truly was and not how my Sunday school teacher taught us it was. In a word, it was Frightening! When you draw back the thin veneer of society and peek at what is really there, you can never pretend that it is anything but what it truly is. Some of the things I have seen will haunt me for the rest of my life and I do not wish that on anyone. Things like old men being beat to death for the $5 that they had in their wallets. A pregnant woman being shot in the back by her baby’s father simply because she asked for money to go to the Dr., but one of the worst was a young girl that was beaten, gang raped and murdered simply because a group of young men were bored. Yes my friend, these animals are out there and there are a lot more of them than you think!

If you know a law officer or someone who has been one, then by all means ask them what they think. I am sure they will tell you the same thing. In my opinion, this realization is one of the most traumatic experiences that a new officer has. The only reason I am telling you this is so you will stop for a moment and think about what is really out there. Now I am not telling you this to try to scare you, but to educate you to the facts. Fear should never be a ________because if you are afraid, then you will make mistakes and this is not what you want. Instead, I want you to be informed and aware of what you may possibly face when you leave your home and even possibly inside your home. Being aware is the first step to being prepared and being prepared is what prepping is all about.

Now I am not suggesting that you go out and buy a gun and just stick it in your pants or purse by any means. What I am suggesting is that you purchase a legal hand gun and then get the proper training on how to safely use it. Then I suggest that you take the necessary steps to get a concealed handgun permit. In this way you will have one with you should the need arise and law enforcement is not around to help. Using a firearm should never be a first option to solving anything, but rather a last result. Believe me when I say that if you ever have to pull that trigger, your life will change forever and not always in a good way. I do recommend that you read my post on what to do after you pull the trigger to get a better idea of what to expect if you have to.

Back to my original thought “Why I always carry a gun with me”, I carry it because I have seen what is really out there and I know what happens when good people are caught off guard and not prepared to deal with the ugliness of this world. If you choose to buy a gun, then learn how to use it. Follow all of the laws for your state and city and be aware of when you can and cannot use it for self-defense. This will also give you a step up on preparedness for when SHTF happens.

When SHTF happens, the curtains will fall and those who are not ready will see the ugly side of reality for the first time and they will shrink in fear. Don’t be one of them. Be prepared and learn to use a gun now, because it will save your life when SHTF happens. Well that is it for today and while I’m sure there will be a few people who are not going to agree with me, this is what I honestly believe to be true based on my experience. Until next time, keep on prepping and may God bless!
