Why you should periodically check Spaceweather.com!

Hello everyone, in today’s post we are going to look at ways to try to stay ahead of the curve when it comes to being prepared. You see the thing is that there are so many ways for it all to come crumbling down that we really have to stay on our toes.  Today we are going to look at a few of those ways, so grab a cup of coffee and let’s have a chat.

When it comes to SHTF, there are so many things that could go horribly wrong in a very short time. I am talking about everything from an EMP to a financial collapse. While I think that most of us realize it, we don’t all know where to look for information on the web about current conditions in the world.  Sure, we all watch the news, but where else can you look for this type of news? (Besides here of course.)  While we are not a news blog, you can bet that if I see anything coming that could possibly pose a threat, you can be sure that I will let you know.

The reason for today’s title, is that while a lot of Preppers are aware of the threat of an EMP, not all of them know where to look to stay up to date on any possible threats that our Sun may throw at us.  For example, right now, there is a huge sun spot that is facing Earth named “#2473” It is at the time of this writing, facing right at earth and harbors the necessary fields to cause an “X” class flare. While it has already fired off an “M” class flare, it has the potential to create far more havoc!  Just to be clear, it was an “X” class flare that caused the Carrington event back in the 1800’s.  If a flare of that same magnitude were to hit us today, it would send us all the way back to the 1700’s technologically speaking that is. Anything that ran on electricity would pretty much become useless.  That nice car you drive and that big TV you have hanging on your wall in the Living room would no longer work at all.  At least that is what people who are a lot smarter than me are saying.  According to a national study that was funded by the US Government, an estimated 75% to 90% of Americans would be dead within a year.

OK, so if I can’t do anything about it then why worry about it? The truth is that there are things that you can do now and if you find out that a CME is on its way in, to help mitigate some of the damage to your property. By placing electronic items in a Faraday cage, you could possibly keep them from being destroyed when it hits.  While there are no guarantees that all of the electronics that you put in it will survive, you can greatly improve the odds that they will, and in doing so increase the odds of your survival.  So exactly how do you get this knowledge to know when one is coming?  That is easy, just go to http://www.spaceweather.com every other day or so and look to see what is going on with the sun.  If you live in the south, then it is kind of like checking on the weather when there is a chance for a hurricane to develop in the Gulf.  It is just good common sense to check it out when you have the time.  To quote Benjamin Franklin   “Failing to prepare is preparing to fail!”  He was absolutely right!  While I am sure there are probably many other sites out there that could provide you the same data, I really like this one myself.  Check it out and give it a try and let me know what you think.

So where else can we look for information that we might not normally run across? Well, as far as me, the only main stream news I will watch is Fox News at www.foxnews.com.  The truth is that I surf multiple sites and look for news that I can validate from more than one source. It is kind of like that saying “Two is one and one is none.” If you can’t validate it from more than one source then it probably didn’t happen.  In this world we live in today with all of the social media, you can bet that if it really happened, then at least more than one person found out about it.  I guess what I am trying to say here is to be aware of where the news that you believe comes from and who verifies that it is true. You need to have as many good sources of information as possible and I feel that the site www.spaceweather.com does not appear to have any kind of an agenda, to distort its data.  Please check it out when you have a chance as it is a great source of information for impending EMP that the sun may decide to hurl at us!  Well that is it for today and I hope you have enjoyed our post today.  Until next time, stay safe, stay healthy and most of all, stayed prepared!
